VANCOUVER, January 5, 2014 – Winsor Gallery announced today the upcoming exhibition, #paulwong2014, featuring new photography, video and neon work by Vancouver award winning media artist Paul Wong. The show runs from January 16 – February 15, 2014. An opening reception will be held on January 18th from 2-4pm; the artist will be in attendance. Visitors to the gallery can expect a visual odyssey, one that is tapped directly into the hyper-mediated world in which we all live.
“Paul Wong’s newest body of work is proof of his ubiquity. Through his mastery of exploiting social media he is everywhere all the time.” says gallery owner Jennifer Winsor. “His work highlights how integrated society has become using these new tools and leads one to question, are we controlling these applications or do they control us?”
#paulwong2014 explores the artist’s incessant image making through a monumental installation entitled Looking, Looping & Listening. With over 300 loops created from animated .gif's and short video clips, this piece spans the length of the major wall in Winsor’s West Gallery. It is made up of forty 10 x 12” video screens, each one providing direct access to Wong’s life. The artist is no stranger to image making as he has been documenting all aspects of his life in the name of art for over 30 years.
