Concurrent Exhibition, with Allan Switzer and Carl Ostendarp

Tuesday, April 2, 2013

Allan Switzer has invited Carl Ostendarp to exhibit with his work at the group exhibition, Concurrent. The exhibition will be on display from April 3 until May 3, 2013.

Switzer participated in a group exhibition in New York. This show placed his work alongside Ostendarp, Warhol, Ruscha, Kay Rosen, Goldsmith and a few others. As a grad student completing my MFA and immersed in finding my way through the so-called death of painting, he was impressed the Mr. Ostendarp’s seeming disregard for the tenets of painting. He showed a way through this theory with complete disregard for history, whilst at the same time creating a new history with through painting in non traditional formats, peculiar colours and with incredible presence.

"Here the similarities melded: as much as I was interested in engaging contemporary art theories, I really was interested in making the perfect beautiful picture. Carl’s work is beautiful and disturbing and that was something that I was and still am interested in exploring in my work: beauty and the disdain for historical limitations of paintings."
